It is widely used as the raw material of cosmetics, food, textile, lubricants, and medicines. The yield of chemical method to produce 1,3-PDO is low, and there are many by-product by using chemical production of 1,3-PDO. As a result, it is difficult to produce 1,3-PDO by chemical method. Using bioprocess, energy requirement is low, and the yield of process is high, so bioprocess can be used for commercial production of 1,3-PDO. Recently, the technology that the production of highly concentrated 1,3-PDO is developed using Metabolic engineering.
