Silence Most Americans regard silence as the sign of uncomfortable. so a word small-talk takes major part of communication. This custom had been taught at the kindergarten. At kindergarten, there is show & tell time which students should ask questions to other student. But there is some other Silence which is called "Strategic Silence". It is more effective than word or speech when they express their emotions or claim opinions. We can see these things when Barack Obama made a speech. With silence, audience got impressed and gave him a big hand. II. Eye Contact When you speak with American, you should contact his eye.
